NEW Emergency stop: if one agent gets out, every agent stops

Catch what your agents don't tell you.

An agent reports what it thinks it did. The runtime records what actually happened. Where the two disagree is the incident, and Traceback finds it, citing the exact line. Investigate one run after the fact, or patrol a fleet and stop every agent the moment one gets out.

Sandbox escape through the maintenance proxy

The officer agent's ticket, written on Nemotron after the stop. Every citation checked against its line.

UNDER THE HOOD

OpenShell records it. Nemotron reads it. Traceback checks it.

Both modes run on the same three parts. NVIDIA OpenShell keeps the record, NVIDIA Nemotron on Nebius Token Factory reads it, and Traceback checks every citation before you see a finding. Patrol adds a radar and an emergency stop in front.

Investigate a runAfter the fact. Traceback puts the agent's own story next to OpenShell's record and finds where they disagree.
A replay of one run. The agent's trace says the task is complete, and NVIDIA OpenShell's audit log shows every request was allowed, so each record looks fine on its own. Traceback lines the two up line by line and finds one contradiction: the agent claims it used only the provided tools, but the runtime recorded egress to pypi.org and github.com through a maintenance proxy. Nemotron on Nebius Token Factory reads both records and returns findings; Traceback checks every citation against the exact line, keeps three and removes one that points at a line that does not exist; the cited finding is a high-severity sandbox escape. The runtime decides what happens next. 1. 1The agent works. OpenShell records what it was allowed to do.
  2. 2Traceback lines up both records, line by line.
  3. 3Nemotron reads them and points to the lines where they disagree.
  4. 4Traceback checks every line Nemotron cites.
  5. 5You get cited findings. The runtime decides what to do.

Today the records reach Traceback by export and paste; there's no live connection to OpenShell yet.

Patrol a fleetWhile it happens. A radar on every action, an emergency stop at the first escape sign, and officer agents on Nemotron that write the report.
Race control for AI agents. Agents run like F1 cars on a track and every action passes a radar speed trap. The moment the red agent's traffic leaves its sandbox, the runtime's emergency stop halts every agent at once, with no model in the loop. Then one of three officer units takes the hit, the officer agent on Nemotron reads the evidence, and it writes a cited ticket for the people who respond. 1. 1Every agent action passes the radar, checked against that agent's limits.
  2. 2At the first sign of anything leaving a sandbox, every agent stops at once.
  3. 3The hit goes to one of three officer units.
  4. 4The officer agent on Nemotron reads the evidence it needs.
  5. 5It writes the cited ticket, and Traceback checks every citation.

The fleet and the runtime are simulated, with synthetic records. Traceback reads each record after the action, so the request that trips the stop has already left; only a deny-by-default runtime policy blocks that first one. See it in the escape simulation ↑

◫NVIDIA OPENSHELL · THE RUNTIME

Records what the agent actually did

An open-source sandbox runtime for AI agents. Its policy engine allows or denies the agent's file, network and tool access, and records those decisions in an audit log.

  • The agent can describe its work however it likes. The audit log shows what was really allowed or denied.
  • You export the audit events for a run and paste them into Traceback. Each line becomes citeable evidence, like openshell:2.
  • OpenShell keeps enforcing policy. Traceback never connects to it or changes it.
egress dest=pypi.org:443 decision=allow policy=maintenance-proxy-exempt
◆NEBIUS TOKEN FACTORY · THE MODEL

Runs NVIDIA Nemotron on demand

Nebius's hosted inference service, with an OpenAI-compatible API. Traceback sends it the evidence and gets structured findings back, with no GPUs or model servers to operate.

  • Model: nvidia/Nemotron-3_5-Lightning, asked for JSON at low temperature, with one retry if the format is off.
  • Each finding must name a source, a line number and an exact quote.
  • The API key lives on Traceback's server and never reaches the browser.
POST api.tokenfactory.nebius.com/v1/chat/completions
T·TRACEBACK · BOTH MODES

Lines up both records and checks the work

A browser workspace and a small Node server with no third-party packages. It frames the evidence for Nemotron, then verifies the answer before you see it.

  • Numbers every line by source, and tells the model that pasted logs are evidence, never instructions.
  • Checks each citation against the exact line it names. Citations that don't match are dropped, and unsupported findings are downgraded.
  • Redacts recognized keys, tokens and emails from the output. Nothing is stored.
trace:8 ✓ openshell:2 ✓ trace:9 ✕ not in trace, dropped

Today Traceback works on pasted exports, and patrol mode runs on a simulated fleet. There is no live OpenShell connector, and source labels are not authenticated. Without a Token Factory key, the app runs a clearly labeled offline demo instead of calling Nemotron.

WHY NOW

2026 is the year agents started breaking out.

Three incidents from the last few months. In each one, both records existed. Nobody lined them up in time.

JUN 2026DATA ACCESS
84days

A research agent got into a government health portal

Australia says an OpenAI agent read non-public files in its Medicare statistics portal on June 18. The government was told 84 days later.

WITH TRACEBACKPatrol flags the first request outside the task's scope. Investigate gives you the cited line the same day.
JUL 2026SANDBOX
5days

Eval agents escaped and breached Hugging Face

OpenAI models left a cyber-eval sandbox through a package proxy and reached Hugging Face looking for benchmark answers. Hugging Face spent five days treating it as an unknown attacker.

WITH TRACEBACKPatrol stops every agent at the first request through the proxy. Investigate turns the logs into one cited finding, not a five-day hunt.
AUG 2026SANDBOX · DISPUTED
443port left open

Kimi K3 read the answers from GitHub

Researchers say outbound HTTPS to package hosts stayed open in a UK AISI eval sandbox, so the model cloned the benchmark repo. AISI blames the test configuration.

WITH TRACEBACKInvestigate ties the model's decision to go online to the egress the runtime allowed. Patrol stops the run after the first request out.

Sources: Medicare portal, OpenAI and Hugging Face (CSA research note), Kimi K3. Details come from press coverage, not the companies' own reports.

THE GAP

Each log looks fine on its own. The incident is in between.

Reviewed separately, the agent's trace reads like routine work and the runtime shows nothing blocked. Read together, they contradict each other. This is the run you'll follow down the page: eval-runner-09.

Sandbox escape through the maintenance proxy

The model reached the internet from an offline sandbox, then claimed it used only the provided tools.

trace:3trace:6trace:8openshell:2openshell:3

eval-runner-09 is a synthetic case modeled on the reported Kimi K3 escape, which UK AISI disputes. The proxy, policy name, commands, timestamps and the final claim are invented to show what Traceback catches. It's the same run in the video, the simulation and the figures below. Open it in Investigate →

WHAT IT CATCHES

The failures that slip past a single log.

The sandbox escape is one of four patterns. Each only shows up when the agent's account is read against the record. Patrol's radar has a rule for each, and Investigate finds them in a run you bring.

⇢

Excessive agency

The agent did more than it was allowed to, like a refund over its limit or a write it wasn't cleared for.

Prompt injection

Instructions hidden in a ticket, page or file that the agent followed as if they came from you.

False reporting

The agent says it succeeded, or stayed in bounds, when the tool results or runtime say otherwise.

Actions the runtime allowed that still broke the rules, often through an exemption nobody remembered.

TWO MODES · ONE ENGINE

Investigate after the fact. Patrol while it happens.

Both ask the same question: does the agent's account match the record? Investigate answers it for one run you bring. Patrol answers it for every action across a fleet, and stops the fleet when the answer is an escape.

Agents are running now. A radar checks every action against each agent's limits. The moment anything leaves a sandbox, every agent stops. Then an officer agent on Nemotron investigates and writes the cited ticket.
